C’était à la Nouvelle Star estonienne, il y’a une quinzaine de jours ^[1] : une gamine de 16 ans, Kristiina Piperal, interprète ‘World spins madly on’ des Weepies sur le plateau de Superstaari. Mais où a-t-elle été pêcher cette chanson, elle regarde Grey’s Anatomy ou quoi? Comment une chanson d’un groupe relativement inconnu du grand public peut-elle se retrouver sur une émission à forte audience? Si les Weepies passent dans l’édition de la Nouvelle Star française cette saison, je me rase la tête, promis! (hé hé…ce s’ra pas trop compliqué ). En tout cas, cela ne fait que confirmer une nouvelle fois l’exceptionnel potentiel de ce duo à l’international; et sa qualité d’écriture aussi, mais ça, on le savait déjà : cette chanson reprise par une gamine, on dirait une version d’Avril Lavigne! Tout ça pour vous dire, comme vous avez pu le remarquer sur le bandeau publicitaire à droite, que les Weepies sortent un nouvel album ‘Hideaway’ le 22 avril prochain, toujours chez Nettwerk ^[2], qu’on peut déjà le télécharger sur iTunes ^[3], et mine de rien, c’est un événement!

Commentaire Songsmeaning.net : it’s a song about two people who are in an impossible love. Chagall painted all these beautiful scenes that were his native village, dreams of love, dreams of freedom…and that’s what this song is. It’s about two people who share a common, impossible dream of being with each other. One of them is named Lexi and just got married to a man she doesn’t love, and her favorite Chagall painting is « I and The Village ». The other one is me, and we are the lovers flying above the clouds in I and The Village…our favorite painting together…and an impossible love. I live 3000 miles from her but she still tells me she loves me and sends me this song…and how we’ll always have our love live in some ethereal place…That’s what this song is about.

The Weepies – Painting By Chagall (Live)

OK ça va pas loin comme musique, mais j’aime bcp ce duo californien, c’est vraiment bien fait; une musique pop/rock acoustique efficace, des compositions solides, des voix bien en harmonie, des textes qui parlent d’amour en touchant à l’essentiel, et une couleur générale Mainstream/FM sans pour autant forçément déplaire aux puristes indés (enfin je crois : vous pouvez cracher dessus si ça vous chante, mais sans moi…) : en fait, ça me rappelle un peu K’s Choice, groupe que j’adorais (surtout l’album ‘Almost Happy’, un chef d’oeuvre d’introspection autobiographique pour moi, pas honte de l’dire), on y retrouve la même magie et grâce vocale. Je croyais que c’était super connu sur la Blogosphère française, mais en fait non, on en a très peu parlés, hormis ce Blog Little Siriad et Welcome to my World : alors puisque personne n’en a parlé, j’applique la règle du snobisme/hype en matière de Music Blogs, à savoir toujours vérifier sur Google Blog Search si personne avant moi n’en a parlé (je sais + quel blogueur l’a dit en des termes bien mieux trouvés, l’un(e) de vous en tout cas : pas retrouvé le Billet auquel je pense, je croyais que c’était sur Interprétations Diverses, c’est son style ce genre de billets incisifs et ironiques). Voilà c tout! Espérons seulement qu’ils connaissent le même succès international que K’S Choice…

Voir Chronique française Webzine/Forum La Factory : ah ben merde! je viens de découvrir cette critique et ils parlent également de K’s Choice! Elle, nous fait penser à Sarah Bettens (des K’s choice), ce petit rien de cassé et d’infiniment doux qui émeut dès la première écoute, et lui, de son côté, chante comme on susurre de jolis mots.
